The world of showbiz was in mourning on Sunday for Cilla Black after the death at 72 of the 1960s pop star, who was championed by The Beatles and later became one of Britain’s best-loved television presenters.
She said: “I wanted to call her after my favourite Aunt Nelly, but when Bobby registered her birth he named her Helen”. I was trying to cheer her up. She would go on to host gameshow “Blind Date” in the ’80s and ’90s. She would never go out looking scruffy.
“This needs to be confirmed by the postmortem, but the evidence gathered by the police suggests that she died of natural causes, but that her death might have been provoked by an accident”.
Singer Sir Cliff Richard said he will miss his “outrageous” friend dearly who was “full of heart”.
Spanish police said they believed the star died from natural causes as figures from across the entertainment industry and politics expressed their shock on social media.

Cilla was found dead around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2 after her son broke down the door of her bedroom.
Her publicist Nick Fiveash said: “It is with deep sorrow that I confirm today the passing of singer and TV personality Cilla Black“. She was always around in the local shops. “It was a privilege to know and love her”, added McCartney.
She said at the time: “Cilla was nice”. We’ve been friends for almost 20 years.
He told ITV’s “This Morning“: “I spoke to her a week ago and she told me she was going to Spain”. I knew her from years back – she was very friendly. That was the thing about Cilla, she always looked spot-on.
