Circus Tent Collapses In Storm Killing 2, Injuring Dozens
Maggie Hassan says “it is deeply saddening that a father and daughter lost their lives at what was meant to be a fun, family event”.
It also has been corrected to show that a man was one of the two victims, not a young man as officials originally said. He said the circus operator did not file a “place of assembly permit” with the town. The National Weather Service also was helping to determine what type of wind passed through the area.
“Luckily enough, we all got down safe”, he said.
Authorities say a circus tent collapse in New Hampshire killed a father and daughter from Vermont. Their identities will be held until their families are notified.
Investigators would check “the construction of the tent and how it was set up”, Degnan said.
(Degnan) “We have reports that there are approximately 32 people that have been treated at four regional hospitals.”
Witnesses said in just minutes, the tent was ripped from its foundation and collapsed on the crowd.
Around 5,000 people attended the festival when a storm swept through the area.
The favored Lollapalooza music pageant in Chicago’s Grant Park briefly shut down Sunday afternoon because of the climate, then resumed lower than an hour later. Officials are now working to figure out what went wrong at the fairgrounds in Lancaster, N.H.
According to “Fox and Friends” live on Monday morning the governor of New Hampshire is sending a disaster response team to the site of the circus tent to investigate. Government agencies are monitoring the condition closely.
“To me it didn’t seem like anything was down tight because (the stakes) came up quick”, said Meagan Marion, who was at the event with her 9-year-old son and her mother. Authorities said Monday night that at least 22 people were injured.
The accident Monday in Lancaster, New Hampshire, happened around 5:46 p.m., when a severe storm blew down the circus tent.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
Circus officials have not been available for comment but Degnan said the “cooperation level has improved greatly and we’re getting good information from them”.
