City councilman tased, arrested by Prairie View police
A city councilman was hit with a Taser and arrested in the same Texas city where Sandra Bland was arrested during a seemingly routine traffic stop, authorities said Friday.
Prairie View police said that four men, who were guests of Miller’s, were being questioned regarding drug activity – Miller then came outside to join his friends and to check on them. “I live here.” After he refuses to put his hands behind his back (and doesn’t move) after being told by both the male and female officer present, they taser him.
Miller was accused of ignoring police orders to step away from the scene, according to arrest affidavits.
In the recording, Miller tells police he lives there.
Councilman Jonathan Miller was later arrested and charged with interfering with a public servant and resisting arrest, authorities with the Prairie View Police Department said.
The female officer seen in Miller’s video was also involved in Bland’s arrest, police said, according to KTRK. “Mr. Miller continued to resist, even after repeated commands to stop”.
“As soon as they started pushing, I pulled out my camera, because if there’s a camera the officer can’t say my battery on my body cam went out or anything like that”, Brandon Woodson told KPRC-TV.
The arresting officer, a woman, has not been named.
Miller, who began his term as position 1 in May, could not be reached for comment.
A video of Miller’s 8:30 p.m. arrest shows Miller on his knees before being tased. “He got him on the ground so easily, he’s only 130 pounds”.
Assistant Attorney General Seth Byron Dennis said last month that prosecutors could submit findings of the investigation into Bland’s arrest to a Waller County grand jury “probably mid to late October” to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
“We have six police officers”.

The officers involved were not placed on leave, though an investigation into the case is ongoing. Once officers attempted to arrest Miller, he physically resisted.
