City, county recycling Christmas trees
Christmas trees should be separate from other unbundled trash and woody waste. Residents with ID can drop off their Christmas tree at 51 Grove St., and the Town will take care of the extra transportation and composting costs required.
They’re turning them into mulch that islanders can take home to use in their gardens.
Recycling Director Susan Hamilton said that Christmas trees placed at the curb will be collected by Republic Services between January 11th, 2016 and January 23rd, 2016.
Once your tree is down, the best way to get rid of it is through a tree-recycling program.
The center also offers collection of books and textiles for reuse through donation to nonprofits.
If you live in an apartment complex, you can drop off your tree at the county’s solid-waste facility, 7550 Apalachee Parkway.
If your tree looks like it still has some life in it, another option is donating it to the Maryland Park Service at Cunningham Falls in nearby Thurmont to be used as a bird habitat.
