City is prepared for potential snow storm
The website weather.com is calling it “Winter Storm Bella”, and predicts significant snow from Iowa to MI.
Monroe County is expected be on the edge of a winter storm that is brewing for MI Saturday (Nov. 21), resulting in a winter weather advisory posted for the area.
Several inches of snow look to fall between Friday night and Saturday morning, with lighter amounts north and south of the heavier band of snow. The Outlook is given when forecasters believe winter storm conditions are possible and are usually issued 3 to 5 days in advance of a winter storm. The heaviest snowfall rates are expected late Saturday afternoon. Parts of the Thumb could see slightly higher totals given a favorable storm track and limited warm air pushing in off of Lake Huron, but mixed precipitation will be a factor along the immediate shoreline. Wind chills will be in the teens.
A winter storm warning was in effect from Friday evening until until noon Saturday.
Sunshine and less wind takes over on Sunday but still cold with highs around 30.
During this emergency, no vehicles may park on any road, road shoulder or ditch until it has been completely cleared of snow.
The average first trace snowfall for the Madison area is October 25, while the average first measurable snow is November 5, according to weather data.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation announced that it has deployed more than 260 snow plows and salt spreaders to Lake Shore Drive and main streets as snow continues to fall on the Chicago metro area. The thinking is that rain will spread throughout the state Saturday morning while still on the warm side of the system. They should contain water, snacks, blankets, extra hats and gloves, first aid kits, booster cables, cellphone chargers, snow shovels and kitty litter. Between I-94 S. and M 59 to the north, a few places overseas there first half inch to 1 inch of snow for the weekend.
