City of Chicago will release Ronald Johnson dash-cam video

Emanuel said in brief comments to reporters on Thursday that he planned to release the dashcam video of Johnson’s shooting death next week. He said evidence he has uncovered through the suit shows that soon after the shooting, detectives investigating at the scene began communicating with dispatchers on their private cellphones in violation of department protocol.

The mayor went on to describe a new task force on law enforcement accountability that will review how the city trains and oversees its police officers.

During a panel discussion Tuesday night, Megyn Kelly addressed the potential disparate treatment that may have been in play in how the U.S. Department of Justice approached the Laquan McDonald case.

He again urged the U.S. Attorney in Chicago to finish that year-long investigation soon.

But Emanuel dismissed those calls while speaking at a Politico-sponsored event on Wednesday: “We have a process called the election”.

If it’s true, as Samuel Johnson told us, that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, then surely Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has shown us that politics is the first refuge of the cynic.
