City win can be Liverpool base camp, says manager Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hopes that his side’s brilliant 4-1 dismantling of former Premier League leaders Manchester City will convince his players that they can surmount any obstacle.
Millions of pounds were spent on Raheem Sterling recently but Jürgen Klopp’s team today nullified his ability to cause danger.
“This is one of the longest periods of time I’ve been out for and that has been tough for me”. Toure was playing in the centre as always but was being ineffective, not like his usual, forceful self.
With just one defeat in their past eight games since Klopp took charge, the players recognise that belief is growing with every positive result.
Sergio Aguero did pull a goal back for the hosts just before half-time, and in doing so he took his Premier League tally to 85, making him the top-scoring South American player in Premier League history. Boring! Enough of the way that the Spanish national side used to play. It was a well-deserved win, full of zest and attractive football from the visitors which left Liverpool’s Adam Lallana enthusing: “We didn’t give them a second on the ball”.
Milner, signed by previous manager Brendan Rodgers in the summer, said the German had already made significant alterations in seven weeks at the club since replacing the Northern Irishman.
“That is a team that has come under new management and when a player comes out after a game and says, against a team like Manchester City, “we had fun today”, that means something has clicked in that dressing room that Klopp has done to that team”. But things were very different on their return to Manchester. Liverpool continued to play attacking football.
This week, Liverpool face home games against Bordeaux in the Europa League and Swansea City in the league.
“Before the game the gaffer laid out a plan for us and it worked out perfectly”, he told the club’s website (www.liverpoolfc.com).
Have the wheels finally come off the bus at City?
It is this failure to be content with the “what went wells”, but also look at the “even better if’s”, that should excite Liverpool fans. Will City win the league this year?
Sagna was a member of the France team who played Germany at the Stade de France on 13 November, the night the French capital was hit by a series of attacks which resulted in 130 deaths.
Fabian Delph, for instance was one of the few bright spots for City, who provided the sort of urgency one would want to see when you are two or three goals down at home.
