‘CJ’ the German Shorthaired Pointer Wins ‘Best In Show’ at Westminster
Rumor, a German shepherd, was ranked the number one dog in the U.S. previous year, and has won 101 best in show titles, but she missed the top spot in NY on Tuesday.
This is Charlie’s second year making it all the way to the final round at the prestigious dog show. “She wants to please”, co-owner Pamela Buckles said.
Vanessa Constantine, 36, of NY, said she would root for Rumor to emerge the ultimate victor.
“For those of us in this sport, this is the pinnacle”, the 51-year-old California native said. His breed has won three times at the 140-year-old Westminster Kennel Club competition, most recently in 2005. Meen picked Lucy the Borzoi as the Reserve Best in Show.

Wesley the Dandie Dinmont terrier could feel confident of at least one win at the Westminster Kennel Club, since he was the only contestant for best of his venerable breed.
The dog, who goes by CJ for short, won out over almost 3,000 other dogs of 199 breeds and varieties, The Associated Press reported. Social media also allows for telling more of the dogs’ personal stories, she said, like those of Max and others who do therapy service.
Then there was Dario the big Leonberger who wanted a treat. So what if he was right in the middle of the show ring at the Westminster Kennel Club? “There are a lot of pretty dogs that don’t believe they’re pretty”, he says.
“He just has that something extra special”, said Valerie Nunes-Atkinson, C.J.’s owner.
Valerie Nunes-Atkinson, the dog’s co-owner and breeder, said she was ecstatic at the win. Instead, watch what the top handlers wear on the green carpet.
“Oh, they’re all so handsome”, Scott said. “There have been a lot of shows, a lot of “best of breeds” to accumulate national rankings, and the competition has been tough”. Ms. McElheney has not tracked how much money has been spent showing Rumor throughout her lifetime, but the dog has five owners: Ms. McElheney, Mr. Boyles, Pamela Buckles of Columbus, Patti Dukeman of Mahomet, Ill., and Deborah Stern of Calabasas, Calif.
