CJI Virtually Endorses AAP Policy on Restrictions on Private Vehicles

According to the new measure passed on Friday, private vehicles will only be allowed on the capital’s roads on alternate days starting in January.
At least 60 per cent of Delhi’s air pollution is generated by traffic, with 1,500 new vehicles are added to the sprawling metropolis’s congested streets daily. “Thank u My Lords (sic)”, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

Government officials said the move, which will initially run as a temporary trial, can reduce emissions in the city by as much as half. The chief minister said no truck will be allowed to enter Delhi before 11 in the night against existing 9 PM.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has said that, this is the time for strong measures and one should also keep in mind that this situation will prevail only for two weeks and after that they will be reviewing the condition.
The government also announced a slew of other measures that could help curb air pollution, including stopping roadside parking to battle congestion, improving the public transportation system and bringing cleaner fuel to the city.
Chief Secretary KK Sharma said the government has chose to shut down the Badarpur Thermal power station and will move the NGT seeking closure of Dadri power plant in Uttar Pradesh.
“Alarming trends in air pollution levels in the capital city and its devastating impacts on public health have made the city desperate for urgent solutions”.
Mr Kejriwal, whose self-founded Aam Aadmi Party (meaning “common man”) was voted in by a majority of the capital’s poor, called an emergency meeting in response.

Targeting the Centre over the implementation of the scheme, the AAP leader said that “hostile government at the Centre is the only problem we face”.
