Clarkson confirms filming will start on new Amazon show within weeks
The original Top Gear team will be moving to Amazon Prime, but are now working on their new show without May – who is busy doing “other stuff”.
According to The Sun newspaper, new ITV motor show, It’s Me Or The auto, will feature people who are obsessed with cars – aiming for a target audience of the entire family – and has already filmed the pilot episode with a view to airing next year. We haven’t decided on the content … any of that stuff. “So, honestly, nothing, nothing has happened”. “Nowhere, to be brutally honest”.
“There’s a lot to be done because we will reinvent, do new stuff, and that’s as invigorating as it gets”, Richard told The Times.
But May did admit the trio had “possibly found an office to work from”.
The trio signed a new deal, reportedly worth millions, with the internet streaming service, during the summer, after their contracts with the BBC were not renewed following Clarkson’s fracas with a Top Gear producer.
It would seem that the huge shake up behind the scenes of BBC’s motoring show Top Gear has created a new craze of motoring shows in general, and now singer Peter Andre has jumped on the band wagon.
The budget for Top Gear was £500,000 per show, rising to around £1million when presenter costs were added.
Earlier this month research carried out by staff at Buzzfeed and SEENIT writer Martin Hoscik revealed the show could be called Gear Knobs after trademarks for the brand were registered by a law firm associated with Clarkson.
The Gear Knobs name is a flawless fit for the three hosts with its cheekiness-after all, the word “knob” (or the alternative spelling “nob”) is British slang for a man’s nether regions.
“I’m not just saying that to put you off. I’d love to be able to say “Yes, it’s called C**ks in Cars”, but it isn’t”.
