Classic PS2 games available on PlayStation 4 today
More details have emerged surrounding the PS4’s new backwards compatibility with PS2 games, including one of the first games that will potentially be released and new features that will be added to classic titles. That changes starting tomorrow, at least for some games, with Sony announcing that a number of PS2 games will be available for the PlayStation 4 starting Saturday. This is because of the huge number of games that can run on this console.
Eurogamer reports that it seems that the PlayStation 4 PS2 emulator doesn’t work with existing PS2 disks or PS2 game downloads purchased on the PS3. These last two games are going to be released with PS2 emulation feature on PS4 soon. Aside from the 4k resolution, both Microsoft and Sony may resort to AMD to get a boost on the performance and likely to get a next gen processing unit that operates five times better than the present consoles do.
To Sony’s credit, it increasingly appears that the PS2 games on PS4 won’t be simple packages of the data, upscaled to modern visual standards. According to part of the video’s description, it mentions that PS2-formatted discs will not be compatible with the PS4.
Sad isn’t it? I’m sure you still hold on to those discs in the hope that you might be able to use them some day, but its time to give them away to some PS2 user.
Are you ready to see brand new gameplay videos and reveals at PlayStation Experience 2015? What made PS2 popular was the wide range of games such as the Dark Cloud, GTA III, Rogue Galaxy, Mark of Kri, Twisted Metal: Black and War of the Monsters.
The games aren’t just straight ports and have received 1080p up-rendered graphics, Trophy support, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App. All titles will be available on the USA and UK PlayStation Network Stores. No one likes having to buy the same game twice, especially 15-year-old games that are being sold digitally for as much as $10 to $20.
