Cleanthony Early seems to have avoided serious injury in shooting
Cleanthony Early shooting makes Knicks a tougher sell for National Basketball Association free agents: In the span of eight months, Chris Copeland was stabbed outside a Manhattan nightclub; another National Basketball Association player, Thabo Sefolosha, had his leg broken by a NY policeman; Derrick Williams was allegedly robbed by two women he invited into his apartment, and our newest victim, Cleanthony Early, was robbed and shot outside a strip club in Queens.
Cleanthony Early said his life has changed “forever but for the better” after being shot in the knee during a robbery, calling the horrifying incident “a minor setback for a major comeback”.
He was then shot in the knee by his robbers, who took his money, jewelry and even the gold caps in his teeth.
His girlfriend and the Uber driver were both uninjured.
Early was discharged from Elmhurst hospital in Queens and transferred to another facility in New York City, where doctors are attempting to stave off an infection to the player’s right knee. Descriptions of suspects weren’t immediately available.
The New York Knicks posted a short statement on their Twitter account following the incident.
Knicks coach Derek Fisher said Early was “doing OK”.
Now, it’s not just Early who’s had to deal with a recent attack. We will not comment any further until we receive more information’.
The guard has played in 10 games for the Knicks this season, averaging less than four minutes and one point per game.
A green Nissan Altima containing two men was reportedly seen fleeing the location around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, ABC stated in a related article, and now authorities are looking for the vehicle as it may also be connected to Early’s shooting on Wednesday.
Police were searching for suspects and trying to determine if it was a carefully planned attack or a spur-of-the-moment hit.
