Cleanup underway in Times Square after New Year’s Eve celebration
Throngs of people began streaming into the area early in the day, spending hours outdoors even before official festivities began with the lighting of the ball at 6 p.m. Whether you are at home, at a NYE party, or traveling during the final seconds of 2015, you won’t have to miss the big “3-2-1 Happy New Year” moment thanks to live streams, free apps and good old-fashioned New Year’s Eve TV shows. This year’s festivities will also be attended by almost 6,000 New York City police officers, including members of a specialized counterterrorism unit.
Bratton noted that the terrorism threat had evolved in the past two years but said there is no credible threat against New York City for New Year’s Eve.

They also will patrol the Times Square subway station, and certain exits will be blocked off. The NYPD will rely on a network of thousands of closed-circuit security cameras blanketing lower Manhattan, parts of midtown Manhattan and the subway system.
