Clemson loses nickel back Wiggins to torn ACL
Clemson junior CB Korrin Wiggins suffered a torn ACL during scrimmage on Wednesday.
The mini-spate of significant knee injuries continues, with Clemson the latest to lose a key piece of its 2015 squad.
Wiggins sustained the injury while trying to recover a fumble during the situational scrimmage in Memorial Stadium. The coach says he was more concerned about Wiggins’ knee and needed to get a fuller report before evaluating when the junior might return. Williams, who is Clemson’s top deep threat option, led the Tigers with a team-high 1,030 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 57 receptions in 2014.
Swinney says he is grateful he spent time with his father this summer when Ervil came to live with the coach for a while starting in May.
Wiggins started six of 13 games in playing 521 snaps last year, posting 40 tackles with two interceptions.
Wiggins was one of only four returning defenders who started at least six games for last season’s unit that was the top-ranked overall defense in the nation.
