Unsung hero: Gallman. After Watson, Gallman was the second-best player on offense for the Tigers, racking up 185 yards – the second-highest total in ACC championship game history.

But it didn’t come without some controversy at the end. With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, the Tar Heels’ T.J. Logan ran for 46 yards to retake the lead with a touchdown. And against the best defense they have played, Williams struggled to deliver the ball.

“A lot of people thought we were going to come out here and just lay an egg, but we didn’t”, said Williams, who played high school football in Charlotte.

With touchdowns from Wayne Gallman and Artavis Scott in the third quarter, the Tigers took the lead 35-16.

The Tigers’ junior free safety was called for two personal fouls in the first half and ejected from the game. He picked up just 4 yards before being dragged down and received an earful from coaches when he returned to the sideline. The Tar Heels ended up with a season low in total offense, failing to tally 400 yards for the first time.

For the record, Dabo Swinney said there was no “fake punt” call during the first half.
