Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel Done?
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been demoted to third-string quarterback after lying to the organization about photos of him partying surfaced and, according to Yahoo Sports, he may not dress for Monday night’s game against Baltimore. While rumors of trades or releases circle around the quarterback, Pettine stressed the Browns have not quit on Manziel.
But now that the rest of the story has become clear, it’s much more understandable as to why the Browns are sending Johnny to the sideline with his tail behind his legs. Manziel hasn’t yet proved himself in the NFL, but he was drafted by the Browns in the first round in last year’s NFL Draft because he has the vision and the intangibles similar to some of the greats.
Pettine made the decision to remove Manziel as his starter after a video appeared of him rapping profane lyrics while holding what appeared to be a champagne bottle.
“…It’s up to Johnny, really”.
But for one longtime Browns fan, no one took the news of Manziel’s persistent flawed decision-making harder than him.
Josh McCown will start for the Browns Monday night against Baltimore.
‘Disappointing – very, ‘ Pettine said following practice. “You have a player that I think we would all agree has come so far from a football standpoint from the product he put on the field from a year ago”.
“I think it’s important that if you have rules and guidelines and people tell you something that you have follow through”, Thomas said. “I have nothing more to add”.
“Josh McCown is our starter”, coach Mike Pettine said.
“To say that Johnny Manziel won’t play again this season, I’m not ready to say that”, DeFilippo said.
“As we all know, a six-game season in the National Football League is a long stretch – a very long stretch, ” said DeFilippo.
Johnny Manziel’s future in Cleveland remains a mystery.
He noted that the bye week was a test for the quarterback and he certainly did not pass. With Pettine stressing accountability, Manziel needs to find it as he hopes this is not the end of the quarterback’s time in Cleveland. But I’m just not going there today. He praised the 22-year-old’s improvement this season, but reiterated that Manziel still has a lot of work to do off the field. Manziel has been a complete and utter disaster throughout his professional career, dealing with a trip to rehab (good for him acknowledging a problem, however) and then other faux pas.
“All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas said he thinks all of the players support Pettine”s decision partly because the situation surrounding Manziel probably involves “more than what you see on the surface from a TMZ report.”. “When you’re in that room with somebody and spend as much time as we do together, there’s a connection there”.
DeFilippo used the early part of the bye last week to tailor a game plan for Manziel.
