Cleveland Cavaliers trade Dellavedova to Bucks, acquire rights to Miralles
Cleveland.com reported earlier this week that the Cavaliers wouldn’t match the Bucks’ offer sheet of four years, $38.5 million.
The Bucks acquired the draft rights to Miralles from Boston in 2011 in a deal that sent Keyon Dooling and a conditional second-round pick to the Celtics.
Miralles was sent to the Cavaliers in the Matthew Dellavedova deal, largely in part to make the money aspect of the deal work out between Cleveland and Milwuakee. Cleveland signed him later that summer, and he appeared in 72 games as a rookie, averaging 4.7 points and 2.6 assists.
Dellavedova also wrote a note to the Bucks, expressing his excitement on joining their franchise.
The 25-year-old Dellavedova played in all 40 of the Cavaliers’ playoff games during the past two seasons. He averaged career highs in points (7.5), assists (4.4), rebounds (2.1), 3-point shooting percentage (.410) and free-throw percentage (.864) this past season, appearing in 76 games (14 starts) and averaging 24.6 minutes per contest. “It’s time to move on now but I really can’t thank everyone in Cleveland enough for everything”. Winning a championship with a special group of players, I can’t wait for the first reunion.
“We wish Delly the best as he continues his career in Milwaukee”, Cavs general manager David Griffin said in the release. “Our coaches and his teammates will always appreciate his “all-in” approach to the game, as he was ready to contribute whenever his number was called”. “We know he will continue to grow and succeed as he takes the next steps of his National Basketball Association journey with the Bucks”.
