A man died after he fell into a crevasse on Sunday while climbing Mt. Jefferson with his wife, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. Ten additional rescue climbers were flown in to assist rescuers at the scene before dawn Monday. Searchers describe the terrain as hard.
Searchers have found the climbers’ vehicle at a trailhead in Marion County and are setting up search and rescue operations. His wife was able to communicate with rescuers via text message.
The Fountains are avid climbers, according to their Facebook pages, which are full of photos of them in the mountains, including Mount Jefferson.
