Clinton Agrees To Hand Over Personal Email Server To DOJ
The examination of the server, along with thumb drives containing emails Clinton has turned over, is expected to take months, law enforcement officials said.
“This past spring, Hillary Clinton asked the Department of State to publish the 55,000 pages of the work emails she provided to the Department last fall”.
On Tuesday, Clinton’s campaign said she had agreed to turn the server over to the Justice Department, along with a thumb drive containing copies of thousands of messages already provided to the State Department.
Earlier Tuesday, the inspector general’s office sent a letter to Senator Charles Grassley, head of the US Senate’s Judiciary Committee, informing him that it had determined two of those four emails were, in fact, highly classified – meaning the information they contained was more secret than originally thought.
She did not hand over another 30,000 emails from this period that she deemed personal and said she chose “not to keep”.
Bush was careful not to directly equate Clinton with the actions of Manning and Snowden, but he forcefully argued that he felt Clinton was being reckless with state information while she led the State Department.
“Given the server was used to conduct official State Department business, questions have been raised regarding whether classified information was stored on the private server”, Wisconsin GOP Sen. There has been no evidence that Clinton encrypted the account to prevent prying eyes from accessing the e-mails or her personal system.
Current Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a surprise announcement Tuesday. “Secretary Clinton’s previous statements that she possessed no classified information were patently untrue”.
Republicans have pressured Clinton to turn over her private server, either to federal authorities or an independent arbiter, for months. While he is convinced what Clinton did was “really damaging” to the country, he also believes the former first lady is hopeful the Obama-controlled Justice Department won’t hold her accountable for putting America’s national security at risk.
“It’s about time,” House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote in a statement.
According to the report, emails purportedly had information that “diplomats can not unilaterally obtain”, such as satellite imagery and signals intelligence.
The server was housed in the basement of Clinton’s Chappaqua, New York home while she was secretary of state.
Clinton’s email arrangement was “regrettable”, said Steven Aftergood, director of the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists. “She knows she did something wrong and has run out of ways to cover it up”, he said. It was disclosed her top aides are being drawn into a burgeoning federal inquiry and that two emails on her private account have been classified as “Top Secret”.
