Clinton aide Abedin dumps husband Weiner over new scandal
The Post reported that Weiner has been caught in yet another sexting scandal, his third such embarrassing episode within the last five years. The newspaper published a photo it said was Weiner lying in bed wearing only underwear with the couple’s four-year-old son sleeping in the background.
Weiner for his part apologized publicly in a 2013 press conference for his behavior online with women, saying, “The behaviors that I did were problematic, to say the least, destructive to say the most”, he said, according to The Observer.
The announcement also came as Mr Weiner’s behaviour became a source of tension in the Clinton campaign and was seized on by her opponent, Donald Trump.
A friend of Abedin, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the breakup, said she was with her young son, Jordan, and her family members in the Hamptons during the weekend. They first got in contact via Twitter and have a history of sending photos to each other.
Weiner confessed to having undergone therapy after the first sexting scandal. “It’s just another example of Hillary’s bad judgment”. “During this hard time, I ask for respect for our privacy”, Abedin added. “Who knows what he learned and who he told?”
Abedin, who as vice chair of Clinton’s campaign is destined for big things if the Democrat is elected president, stayed with Weiner after a sexting scandal led him to resign from Congress in 2011 and after a new outbreak of online misbehavior wrecked his bid for NY mayor in 2013.
Longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has won plaudits for her campaign instincts, her deep-rooted loyalty and her glamorous personal style. The film included candid scenes of the couple at strategy meetings and at home, in which Ms Abedin frequently appeared uncomfortable under the spotlight, and at times, distressed, as the news of his latest transgressions were made public. “It is possible that our country and its security have been greatly compromised by this”. She may not know what’s best for herself but she apparently knows what’s best for Hillary Clinton.
Abedin, 41, is a longtime Clinton aide and confidante who is often referred to as the candidate’s second daughter.
In an interview with Vogue, according to the New York Times, Abedin talked about how much she has relied on Weiner during the campaign.
Frequently by Clinton’s side, Abedin was spotted outside fundraisers for the Democratic presidential nominee on Sunday in the Hamptons, on New York’s Long Island.
Abedin began working for the former first lady as a White House intern and became a trusted aide as Clinton won a seat in the Senate representing NY in 2000, ran for president in 2008 and served as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state.
