Clinton Attacks Trump, Reaffirms Commitment to Defeating ISIS
Clinton made her remarks at an LGBT fundraiser in NY late Friday.
“I’ve learned to be grateful not just for my blessings but also for my faults, and there are plenty”, she said, noting the importance of humility among leaders.
The Trump campaign has also been blasting Clinton for her fundraisers – Trump’s son Eric this week criticized her for raising money while his father was in Mexico. “The effect of the Republican and Democratic conventions on the presidential race has run its course”, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the poll.
Clinton’s campaign disputes the suggestion she had been dodging the media, arguing the former secretary of state has conducted more than 300 interviews this year. “He didn’t do it on a number of other issues and frankly, this criticism that he went a lot harder on Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump, I think, is well founded”.
Donald Trump Jr, the candidate’s son, shared a post yesterday from Infowars, a website known for spreading conspiracy theories, which alleged that Mrs Clinton had been wearing an earpiece during the forum so her staff could help her respond to questions.
Mr Trump’s son Eric took aim at Mrs Clinton’s remarks, posting a photo of a sports arena packed with Trump supporters on Twitter.
Before last night, the ghost hovering over the 2016 presidential debates was Candy Crowley, who after famously fact-checking Mitt Romney during one 2012 debate, became the focus of unwanted attention and later lost her job at CNN. In some cases, as with his plans to defeat the Islamic State group, Trump says they’re purposefully shrouded in secrecy. “But if that sometimes is the perception I create, then I can’t blame people for thinking that”.
Mr Trump appears to be gaining ground.
Aides fear a scenario in which a single misstep by Clinton gets a tougher assessment than repeated mistakes by Trump. “That’s the kind of Commander in Chief I will be – someone who will bring us together in common goal to keep our people safe and our country strong”. “And she wouldn’t be prosecuted”.
The comment was reminiscent of Trump’s January description of the loyalty of his supporters. “It’s like incredible”, he said.
Clinton suggested she agreed with Democrats who say she is being held to a different standard in the White House race. And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. “He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric”.
He added that millions of Americans support the Republican nominee because, “they are sick of corrupt career politicians like Hillary Clinton”.
The other basket of Mr Trump’s supporters constituted individuals desperate for change who felt let down by the government and the economy, Mrs Clinton added. He attacked dozens of former flag officers by saying that quote, ‘We’ve been losing for us for a long time.’ That’s how he talks about distinguished men and women who have spent their lives serving our country, sacrificing for us. She has made similar comments recently, including on an Israeli television station.
Clinton hit Trump on Thursday as “someone who has insulted Muslims, insulted a gold star family. someone who has said he doesn’t want to let Muslims from around the world come to our country”.
Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said in a series of tweets after the remarks that Clinton has been talking about the “alternative right”, or “alt-right” movement, which often is associated with efforts on the far right to preserve “white identity”, oppose multiculturalism and defend “Western values”.
“And their supporters appear to make up half his crowd, when you observe the tone of his events”.
Both Trump, a native New Yorker, and Clinton, who was senator from NY at the time of the attacks, have agreed to refrain from campaigning Sunday, continuing the tradition of setting aside partisan politics on the somber anniversary.
