Clinton backs the Buffett rule; Buffett backs Clinton
The investment guru’s annual shareholder meeting is dubbed “Woodstock for Capitalists” and drew an overflow crowd of more than 40,000 people from around the globe in the spring.
“What he brings to the table is that he’s one of the few highly respected business people who average people view as one of them, ” Marc Lasry, a NY hedge fund manager and Democratic donor, told the Associated Press. In 2008, he backed both Clinton and President Barack Obama in the primaries.
Clinton’s tax plans for wealthy Americans and corporations are critical to her campaign because much of her proposed spending, on issues like debt free college, infrastructure spending and healthcare spending credits, are to be paid for by raising taxes on the wealthy.
“What has happened is that despite this incredible bounty, millions and millions and millions of Americans have been left behind”, Buffett said. “Promising to carpet bomb until the desert glows doesn’t make you sound strong, it makes you sound like you are in over your head”, she added, referencing recent comments by Texas Sen.
At Mrs Clinton’s campaign event, the businessman went beyond just supporting the candidate.
Mr. Buffett said he isn’t anxious that she would go easy on them if elected.
Appearing in Omaha, Neb. alongside Warren Buffett for who the rule is named, Clinton said it will be necessary to ensure a fair tax system. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that Clinton’s tax increases so far would raise slightly more than $800 billion over 10 years. But Buffett said it was “really important” that Nebraskans in the audience reach out to their neighbors and relatives about voting. “She will never forget the people who haven’t shared the same way” in the nation’s prosperity.
And then there’s the money.
Which is what makes Buffett’s endorsement and support of Clinton so exceptional.
Mrs. Clinton greeted supporters at the Historic Old Brick Church in Iowa City with a familiar Democratic theme. Buffett joined Clinton at an Omaha fundraiser earlier in the morning.
The former First Lady benefits from strong support among woman, as she has a 59 percent to 32 percent advantage over Sanders among female voters.
“I believe strongly we can protect our people without undermining our constitutional rights”, he wrote. “I’m going to do what works to fix the economy”. “I would hope to do it”.
“Our security professionals need to more effectively track and analyze ISIS’s social media posts and map jihadist networks, and they need help from the tech community”, she said.
