Clinton blasts Trump over ‘anti-semitic’ tweet
Clinton’s campaign, in a press release last week, said she raised $69 million in June and finished the month with more than $44 million on hand.
The campaign hosted 22 fundraising events for Trump Victory – another joint fundraising committee with the RNC that shares funds with 11 state party committees – during the last week of May and the month of June, which yielded $25 million.
In the same month, Clinton’s campaign raised $68.5 million, including $40.5 million for her own campaign and $28 million for the Democratic National Committee and state parties.
In a statement, Trump touted that he had given an additional $3.8m to his campaign, raising his total contributions for the cycle to $55m.
The bad news? Romney raised $106 million in June 2012 and he did it under a campaign-finance regime that required smaller caps on large donations.
As the presumptive nominee, billionaire Trump is all but assured the party’s nomination – he won the most pledged delegates in the primaries.
“It’s as if someone told Trump he’s not allowed to be misogynistic anymore so he was like, ‘Fine, I guess I’ll call her a Jew, ‘” Noah said, adding that while some might let an incident like this blow over, Trump likes to turn “gaffes into gaffe-itunities”. Since mid-May, she has maintained a relatively consistent level of support among likely voters, while Trump’s popularity has eroded as his campaign wrestled with a variety of issues.
It is unclear how much of the $51 million contributed by others will go directly to Trump’s campaign. (The latter figure includes some money raised at his inaugural fundraisers at the end of May.) The campaign claims more than 400,000 supporters, with 94% donating under the $200 threshold required for individual disclosure. “They’ve obviously got to fix that”.
While not referring to Trump by name, Kasich nonetheless took a swipe at the real estate mogul, criticizing him for the incendiary comments that have become a hallmark of his campaign. He defended the Republican presumptive nominee, in part by pointing to the Jewish members of Trump’s family.
In other news, Donald Trump is said to be meeting with potential candidates to decide who will be his running mate. His campaign has struggled to attract top bundlers, and he is expected to trail Clinton by at least $500 million in total dollars raised. But Twitter has too strong of a come-hither for Trump, with all the potential consequences that may bring.
