Clinton camp: Trump has ‘no plan’ for IS
Clinton, meanwhile, demonstrated her fluency on foreign policy at Wednesday night’s forum, but still found herself defending her record. “On the flip side, Donald Trump [is] saying you can’t trust Hillary Clinton because of the decisions she has made”.
Critics from all over the political spectrum and many journalists blasted the “Today” show host for being out of his element during the broadcast.
It was the first time the candidates had appeared back-to-back at an event since they secured their parties’ nominations, and the evening offered a preview of their first debate on September 26. Clinton was repeatedly challenged on her controversial email use at the State Department and her vote as a senator for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In yet another controversial remarks, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said United States generals under Obama administration have been “reduced to rubble” and suggested that he if elected would remove some top military officers to usher in a new upper echelon. He also revealed that there were official investigations that confirmed that Clinton and other administration officials did not follow expert advice on how to manage national security conflicts. Here are five important moments from that hour. And that’s a very different system and I don’t happen to like the system.
“The fact is that there is so much titillation from and about Donald Trump that there’s very little bandwidth left for much of a focus on policy”, said Democratic pollster Geoff Garin of Hart Research Associates, who works with the pro-Clinton super PAC Priorities USA. “There were no headers”. A new poll suggests most Americans (53 percent) expect Clinton to win the debates, which is sometimes considered a disadvantage – the person expected to win typically has to outperform to beat expectations.
But that wouldn’t include committing more forces to the effort.
During the forum, Trump also insisted on repeating a claim that has been previously debunked – that the businessman was “totally against the war in Iraq”. Both candidates believe they have the upper hand, with Clinton contrasting her experience with Trump’s unpredictability and the Republican arguing that Americans anxious about their safety will be left with more of the same if they elect Obama’s former secretary of State. She said her vote to authorize the Iraq War was a “mistake”, then vowed: “We are not putting ground troops into Iraq ever again and we are not putting ground troops into Syria”.
In one instance, she had said: “Our decision was to put together an global coalition, including Russian Federation and China to exert the kind of pressure that the United States alone could not do”.
Hillary Clinton told an Israeli news channel Wednesday that ISIS is “rooting for Donald Trump”, citing an article by a former head of the US National Counterterrorism Center. Yet, Trump has plenty of support of his own from the military.
“The generals under Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have not been successful”.
Clinton said Trump’s praise of Putin as a better leader than Obama was “not just unpatriotic” but also “scary”.
“I have great faith in the military”. Up until the final day, there were concerns that Trump might back out, one of the organizers said on condition of anonymity.
A senior adviser said ahead of the speech that Trump would make sure the additional spending was fully paid for but did not explain how.
“If he says great things about me, I’m going to say great things about him”, Trump said, but “it’s not going to get him anywhere”.
He stood by a previous comment that appeared to blame military sexual assaults on men and women serving together, but added he would not seek to remove women from the military. “There are many people that think that that’s absolutely correct.it’s happening, right?”
