Clinton Campaign Declares Victory In Iowa, Sanders Calls Results ‘Virtual Tie’
Hillary Clinton won Bernie Sanders with a razor-thin lead in the Iowa caucuses, according to results announced by Iowa Democratic Party Tuesday.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio was snapping at Trump’s heels with 23 per cent.
Trump came in second slightly ahead of Rubio, whose stronger-than-expected finish should help cement his status as the favourite of mainstream Republican voters who worry that Cruz and Trump are too caustic to win the general election.
This is a statistic Ted Cruz is confident he can turn around and says it all starts with the people of New Hampshire.
“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he illegally stole it”, Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “They are a bunch of dishonest cookies, I want to tell you”.
The property mogul on Wednesday accused Mr Cruz, a United States senator from Texas, on Twitter of stealing his victory in Iowa. Both candidates did poorly in Monday’s Iowa caucuses, which were dominated by Mr Cruz’s defeat of Mr Trump. Cruz won 34 percent of these voters, while Trump got 22 percent and Republican Sen.
“Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified“, Trump tweeted. But only the most inexperienced interpreter would conclude from this divination that Ms. Clinton and Mr. Cruz will be the candidates in this fall’s USA presidential race.
“For Trump, he has to blame someone, something, anyone other than himself and his own record for his loss”, he said.
The accusations stand in stark contrast to Trump’s concession speech, in which the brash billionaire struck a conciliatory tone. “To have campaigns come out and send emails to their caucus speakers and suggest that Dr. Carson is doing anything but staying in this race is low in American politics and we are very sorry to see that have happened”.
Cruz bested Trump with 28 percent of caucus-goers’ pledges on Monday compared to Trump’s 24 percent.
However, it shows the growing discord between the top two GOP presidential contenders heading into the first primary of the year in New Hampshire.
“Donald hasn’t really outlined any position on policies, with any detail – so, when the time comes, and it’s appropriate, we’ll do so”, he said.
“Well, I think we could have used a ground game, a term I wasn’t even familiar with”, Trump said Wednesday.
