Clinton chastises Trump for comment on security briefing
Obama, asked about Trump while attending a summit in Laos, repeated his assessment that Trump is unqualified to be president.
On Wednesday, before a room full of veterans, Trump took his adoration for the former K.G.B. operative to a whole new level, offering effusive praise for the Russian president during an NBC News forum on military policy. During the forum, Clinton faced questions about her private email server, her judgment and her vote as a Senator from NY for the Iraq War while her opponent, Donald Trump, was quizzed about his plan to combat ISIS and whether his administration would allow undocumented immigrants to serve in the military.
Just one day after Congress returned after a seven-week break, Ryan was once again put on the spot about an outlandish comment from Donald Trump. “They are saying ‘please Allah make Trump president of America.’ So I’m not interested in giving aid and comfort to their evil ambitions -I want to defeat them”.
She said Trump’s frequent compliments of Putin show he’s “totally” unsuited for the White House and suggested that if elected, Trump would let the Kremlin gets its way.
Clinton said Trump’s praise of Putin as a better leader than Obama was “not just unpatriotic but also scary”. “What I did learn is that our leadership, (President) Barack Obama, did not follow what our experts. said to do”, he said.
She said the United States does not “invade” other countries to “plunder and pillage” and she will not send America’s courageous soldiers to “steal oil”. “But it’s part of the landscape we live in”.
Trump’s past statements about Putin have been a target for Clinton’s criticism of him.
Clinton’s media reset began on Monday, when her campaign allowed the press on her new, larger plane for the first time this election cycle – far later than candidates have welcomed the media in the past.
During a question Clinton fielded from a vet about her plan to defeat ISIS, Lauer jumped in before she could answer and said: “As briefly as you can”.
Clinton began the forum saying her long experience in government as a U.S. senator and secretary of state made her uniquely qualified to serve as president. But she defended her support for US military intervention to help oust a dictator in Libya, despite the chaotic aftermath. She and affiliated committees had $152 million, compared with Trump’s $97 million, as the campaign told the Wall Street Journal this week.
Another moment that stirred up controversy was when Trump stood by a 2013 tweet in which he seemed to suggest military sexual assault is simply expected if women choose to serve. And for the first time, he opened the door to granting legal status to people living in the US illegally who join the military. “And I could see myself working that out”.
“But I was opposed to that war from the beginning, long before my interview with Howard Stern”, Trump said. He replied, “Yeah, I guess so”.
The appearances mark an intense, two-day focus on national security by Trump, who has offered tough rhetoric – but few details – on America’s challenges overseas.
