Clinton Delivers Emotional Speech at DC Event
By two days after the election, Hillary Clinton had won the popular vote in America by over 200,000 votes, and the next four years will most likely be a disaster.
Following last week’s shocking USA presidential election, Clinton appeared on Wednesday night at a children’s charity gala at Newseum in Washington, D.C.
Despite the outcome of last week’s election, Edelman pointed out that Clinton won the popular vote and called her “the people’s president”.
Boxer specifically cites the margin Clinton is leading over President-elect Donald Trump in the popular vote.
Dave Wasserman, of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, released a tally of all the votes counted so far, as provisional and mail-in ballots continue to trickle in, and millions of ballots remain uncounted. The bulk of those votes are in California, so Clinton’s lead is likely to grow substantially.
Clinton said she wants to go back in time and tell her mother Dorothy of her accomplishments.
National Popular Vote is a group dedicated to getting states to adopt a bill that would push the country to move from Electoral College to popular vote for presidential elections. “Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts”, Boxer said. President George Bush won the presidency because of the Electoral College Votes despite Gore gaining 543,895 more votes than Bush.
The electoral vote is at 290 for Trump and 232 for Clinton, although one state has yet to be called. Perhaps this will be one small step towards solving one of the real tragedies of the 2016 election – that almost half of eligible voters did not even bother to cast a ballot. The state has until November 28 to make the results official. This was the first time Clinton had spoken in public since conceeding the presidential race to Republican Donald Trump. In the unlikely event it passed, the measure would still require ratification by three-fourths of the states within seven years of passage, as it would seek to amend the Constitution. “As a matter of policy, it’s clear the Electoral College is outmoded”.
Trump, in a tweet Tuesday, made the same point, writing, “The Electoral College is actually genius in that in brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play”.
First, Electoral College “locks” are good until someone cracks the lock, as Mr. Trump did in 2016.
President Obama has refused to criticize Trump since the election.
