Clinton: ‘Deplorables’ comment was “grossly generalistic”
During a new conference Thursday before she started a day of campaigning in North Carolina and Missouri, Clinton stood by the comment, saying that ISIS has “said that they hope (Trump) is the president because it would give even more motivation to every jihadi”.
Jason Miller, a Trump spokesman, said Clinton’s comments were “unhinged and dishonest”.
She later added, “Hillary, placing people in “baskets”, slandering them but admitting after 8 yrs, they are “desperate for change”. I regret saying “half” – that was wrong”, Clinton said in a statement, less than 24 hours after she made the comments at a fundraiser in NY. “She could walk into this arena right now and shoot somebody, with 20,000 people watching, right smack in the middle of the heart and she wouldn’t be prosecuted”, Mr Trump said.
But Graham, who has served in Congress since 1995, saved most of his criticisms for Donald Trump.
During a spirited speech focused on the LGBT community, Clinton also made a joke that referenced conversion therapy, type of counselling created to urge gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender children to change their sexual orientation.
Of course, while Clinton is taking heat for her comment, Trump’s brand is controversy. That makes her a criminal, regardless of whether she is prosecuted, just as surely as someone who robs a bank and doesn’t get caught is a criminal.
The response came after being asked her reaction to Trump’s appearance on the state-funded Russian Television.
Trump seemed to skate by a half hour later as he repeated – unchallenged – the false claim that he was against the war, even though he voiced support for it in a 2002 interview.
“I stood up for Israel at the United Nations, I stood against BDS”, Clinton continued. “It’s like incredible”, he said.
She added, “And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric”.
“Many of Trump’s supporters are hard-working Americans who just don’t feel like the economy or our political system are working for them”.
The clear and obvious imbalance in how moderator Matt Lauer conducted last week’s Commander-in-Chief Forum with the two presidential candidates has certainly triggered plenty of consternation, and why not?
Trump, who has faced backlash from both parties in recent days for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin, was interviewed by Larry King, a veteran American journalist whose show airs Thursday evenings on RT America, the US partner of a network originally called Russia Today. “And their supporters appear to make up half his crowd when you observe the tone of his events”.
Graham has said he will not be voting for Trump or Clinton in November.
“It’s one thing to attack your opponent. I was proud to be a part of that”. “It sounds out of touch and condescending… trying to explain away Trump’s supporters to a NY money crowd”.
Donald Trump says he’ll be in St. Louis later Saturday to attend the funeral of Phyllis Schlafly, the conservative activist who helped defeat the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and founded the Eagle Forum political group.
She recalled visiting congregations across the country, from Cedar Rapids to Montgomery, and learning about their public service, like a church in Philadelphia that built a supermarket “in a neighborhood that hadn’t seen one in more than 10 years”.
