Clinton e-mails renew concerns about ties between foundation, State Dept.
The Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton herself agreed to rules when she became secretary of state that no activities of the foundation would “create conflicts or the appearance of conflicts for Senator Clinton as Secretary of State”. Decades of mendacious right-wing attacks – combined with Clinton’s genuine indiscretions – have gifted her an aura of untrustworthiness and corruption.
In a hearing last month on Capitol Hill, FBI Director James Comey declined to say whether the Clinton Foundation was under investigation, saying “I’m not going to comment on the existence or non-existence of any investigation”.
Republican vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence insisted Sunday that the public has a “right to know” whether Hillary Clinton engaged in pay-to-play by granting State Department access to top Clinton Foundation donors during her tenure as secretary of state.
So what the Federal Bureau of Investigation wanted to do, earlier this year, is open up a case and investigate whether there was a conflict of interest at the time that that donor was making contributions to the Clinton Foundation during Clinton’s tenure at the State Department.
“We need Gilbert Chagoury to speak to the substance person re Lebanon”, Clinton Foundation head Doug Band wrote to Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin in 2009.
State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau told ABC News the contact between Hillary Clinton’s aides and the Clinton Foundation were routine and would not have drawn scrutiny were it not for the familial connection and Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Donald Trump has launched a petition urging the Justice Department to investigate the Clinton Foundation. “Very imp”, Mr Band wrote. It notes that the emails are aide to aide, not involving Clinton. “The State Department is not aware of any actions that were influenced by the Clinton Foundation”.
The Clinton campaign said on Wednesday that this person was not a donor nor a Clinton Foundation employee, but refused to release his or her identity. The Department of Justice also looked into similar claims made by the author of the “Clinton Cash” book, but found insufficient evidence to launch a case.
Judicial Watch said 44 of the emails it released had not been previously handed over to the State Department by Clinton.
‘If he wasn’t concerned about Hillary Clinton and her scandal about the email he wouldn’t have had to have that secret meeting’.
Mills also said she recalls speaking to the same staffer – Bryan Pagliano – about the company overseeing the server set up. But Cuomo wasn’t buying the notion that Clinton wouldn’t know about what some of her closest aides were up to – particularly if they were doing something Clinton told the public she wouldn’t do.
