Clinton emphasizing gun laws ahead of South Carolina primary

A victory exceeding Clinton’s gaudy poll numbers would help her start a push to close the Democratic race by March 15, when half of the elected delegates will have been decided.

A Public Policy Polling poll released on Thursday found Clinton leading Sanders by a similar margin in the state, up by a 57 percent to 32 percent. Bernie Sanders in Saturday’s Palmetto State Democratic primary by 27 percentage points, according to an average of recent polls.

Quinnipiac University released a poll of likely Democratic primary voters on Friday morning which shows Clinton taking 59 percent while Sanders has the support of 33 percent.

State Sen. Mamie Locke, chairwoman of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, said Clinton is helped by the fond memories African-Americans have for her husband – and by McAuliffe’s work on voting rights and other issues important to the black community.

Clinton also pledged to “take on the gun lobby” in office, and slammed Sanders for having voted against some gun restrictions during his congressional career.

Noerdlinger said that Benjamin Jealous, the former NAACP leader who is backing Sanders, has asked Sharpton to participate in a conference call with some students who want to make a pitch on behalf of the Vermont senator, who has struggled to pick up support among black voters.

On the Republican side, businessman Donald Trump maintains a solid lead in Wisconsin, getting the nod from 30% of those surveyed.

“If we are looking at children being poisoned, and perhaps suffering irreversible brain damage, if that is not an emergency, I just don’t know what an emergency is”, Sanders said. McGill said the issue is personal for him because his elderly aunt and uncle were injured in a Baltimore shooting this week.

Clinton is doing well with various groups; she leads among voters who describe themselves as “very liberal”, “somewhat liberal” or “moderate to conservative”.

“I am not a super predator, Hillary Clinton”, Williams said.

Clinton leads all polls with a commanding lead and is widely expected to win Saturday.

SC is a pivotal state. In the meantime, rapper Killer Mike of Atlanta is campaigning here on his behalf. PPP’s poll shows Clinton doing better with men than women. Sanders is building a political movement that will continue to influence the nation’s politics for years to come.
