Clinton: First day of Republican convention ‘surreal’
Days earlier, Christie proudly conducted an interview about the prospects of being Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate.
After laying out the “facts” in each instance, Christie asked delegates in Quicken Loans Arena to render their “verdict” with the audience shouting “guilty!” in response each time. The Republican Party faces continued negative favorability ratings in the eyes of voters (51% unfavorable to 42% favorable), and few of the big political names slated to grace the convention stage are doing any better.
While the FBI stopped short of recommending charges against the presumptive Democratic nominee over her email scandal, Christie, himself a former federal prosecutor went into attack-dog mode on the second day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
Republicans at their national convention are putting Hillary Clinton on mock trial, declaring her guilty and issuing sentences that include death by firing squad, in a remarkable display of political rhetoric gone wild. This would allow officials to keep their jobs in a new, possibly Republican, administration, Christie said.
“He’s just wrong on this one”, Christie said. “A scattered group of delegates – mostly from states where Ted Cruz beat Donald Trump handily in either the primaries and caucuses or delegate selection – failed to come up with the 28 votes on the Rules Committee needed to file a minority report (which could have led to a floor vote on unbinding delegates), and then failed to force a roll-call vote on the rules on the convention floor”. Christie touched on the terrorist occupation of Libya after the overthrow of Muammar el-Qaddafi, her praise of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria who ended up slaughtering thousands of his own people in the country’s civil war, the Iran nuclear arms deal and her failed Russian reset.
“I loved it. I hope I see Christie do this every day from now until the election, ” Frassetti said. He added that after Trump accepts the party’s nomination for president Thursday night and begins getting classified intelligence briefings, “you’ll probably see him moving more towards having to be more aggressive on ISIS”.
To be sure, the Clinton campaign is trying to make Trump’s outreach to women more hard.
“He may say he admires him as a strong leader”. They are also mostly against procedural efforts aimed at unseating Donald Trump as the Republican nominee. “Vladimir Putin is an oppressive, murderous thug”, Tapper said. “Christie said he knew he was close, but didn’t think he was going to make the final cut”. After a pause, Trump turned to Christie and asked for his opinion on China’s development of islands in the South China Sea. Trump, Clinton said, wanted to “tear up Dodd-Frank and let Wall Street run wild again”. And he concluded, “I think this is much ado about nothing”. The U.S. Secret Service said it was investigating.
“If you think Chris Christie can lecture anyone on ethics, we have a bridge to sell you, ” Clinton wrote”.
Christie also touched on Clinton’s email scandal. David Samson, the former chairman of the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, pleaded guilty last week to a felony corruption charge for pressuring United Airlines to resume a route between the Port Authority-run Newark Airport and an airport in Columbia, S.C., near Samson’s vacation home.
