Clinton gets mixed reaction after going makeup-free for speech
This election was the fourth time in US history that the actual votes of the people were ignored in favor of an Electoral College count.
Southern states with slaves were anxious about dominance by northern states, since slaves couldn’t vote and wouldn’t be counted in a direct vote.
“I’m a Trump voter I ran to be elected as a Trump delegate, I ran to be elected as a Trump elector”.
Trump won an impressive victory for sure, but an analysis of the voting results by Karl Rove in today’s Wall Street Journal points to a different conclusion: Hillary Clinton severely under-performed.
Speaking to Buzzfeed News, Jim O’Connor, an elector from Arizona, said he has already received at least 60 phone calls and over 1,500 emails from concerned voters.
Donald Trump won almost 60 more Electoral College votes than Hillary Clinton, but the Democratic presidential nominee’s popular vote continues to advance over her opponent’s as ballots pour in from the last few states to be counted, including Michigan, Washington and Utah.

Party electors nearly always vote for the candidate that wins the state’s popular vote, even if they are considered “unbound”, as they are in Texas. Magarian says since the Electoral College has only hurt Democrats, Republicans will fight to keep it in place.
Even hard left-leaning documentarian Michael Moore recognized this when on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” he said: “You have to accept that millions of people who voted for Barack Obama, some of them once, some of them twice, changed their minds this time”.
The number of votes in the Electoral College is based on the number of senators plus the number of congressional seats.
Clinton finished her speech by providing what could have been a counterpoint to Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan. Until that date, it’s constitutionally possible – although unlikely – that the electors could change their votes.
Over the years, there have been occasional calls to scrap the Electoral College, but none have been successful. This is the second time since 2000 that a candidate has claimed the presidency of the United States despite losing the popular vote – the feat was also achieved by former US President and fellow Republican George W. Bush.
