Clinton: I’d rather be president than Beyonce because I can’t sing
Famed investor Warren Buffett, “the Oracle of Omaha”, has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and poked fun at her Republican opponents at a campaign event in Nebraska.
“I want to go even further, because Warren is 100 percent right, as usual”, Clinton said at a rally in Omaha, Nebraska.
As for her tax plan, Mrs. Clinton’s campaign says she’ll have more details after the new year.
In October, Clinton, who has been criticized by detractors for having a “likability problem”, called Republicans the “enemy” of which she is most proud during a Democratic debate.
“Well, I don’t know that I ever have, I’m not exactly one of their favorites”, Clinton replied when asked at a campaign stop in Iowa City if she would agree not to accept Big Oil donations. “And that’s the primary reason that I’m going to be so delighted when Secretary Clinton takes the oath of office”.
Economic recovery has been healthy under President Obama, she said, but could be spurred by more funding for infrastructure improvements, a boost for manufacturing fueled in part by more technical skill training opportunities in community colleges and the new jobs that can be created by development of clean energy sources.
President Barack Obama has included the rule in his 2016 budget proposal, though Republicans have said no since it was first proposed five years ago. “You know, I used to love Abbott and Costello”, he said.
Clinton has said she’s talked about Wall Street excess for years, and has vowed to seek criminal penalties for bankers who break the rules.
Clinton did not mention Tuesday night’s Republican debate during her almost hour long appearance, instead choosing to focus on policies she has already rolled out and political knocks against Republicans.
“First thing you can tell them, as best as you can tell looking under the lights, I don’t have horns”, Clinton quipped to an audience of roughly 800 people inside the Sokol Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska.
Clinton gushed about 14-month-old baby Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky during a question and answer session, saying: “She is adorable”. Clinton joked: “If I really had a choice, I’d rather be president, because I can’t sing”.
His endorsement was not a surprise – he had said earlier this year that he supported her, and he donated to the pre-campaign super PAC Ready For Hillary.
“What he brings to the table is that he’s one of the few highly-respected business people who average people view as one of them”, said Marc Lasry, a NY hedge fund manager and Democratic donor, in an interview.
In addition to the rally, Mr. Buffett also hosted a private fundraiser for Mrs. Clinton on Wednesday, at which guests had to pony up $2,700 for the chance to have their picture taken with the duo. “He’s liked by lots of different kinds of people”.
