Clinton interviewed by the FBI about private email server
As I discussed yesterday, if Lynch knows what that there nearly certainly will be a recommendation not to prosecute, it makes sense for her to say she will accept the recommendation.
The investigation is focused on whether classified information was mishandled because Clinton used a private email account when she was secretary of state.
The FBI investigation is focused narrowly on the question of whether Mrs Clinton or those writing to her improperly handled classified information by sending it to or from her private e- mail address.
The three-and-a-half-hour interview was conducted at the FBI’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and is considered one of the final steps in the investigation before prosecutors decide whether charges are warranted.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch responded Friday to criticism over her spontaneous meeting with Bill Clinton, saying it “cast a shadow” over the Justice Department’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email practices.
“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was secretary”, campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement.
The FBI interview may indicate the yearlong probe by the Justice Department is in its concluding stages.
Legal experts have said the likelihood of charges being brought is unlikely, but the controversy is still hugely damaging to the presidential hopeful and will draw yet more attention to the personal controversies surrounding her character. Officials want ample time to review Clinton’s interview and compare it to everything they have discovered in the months-long investigations.
Clinton is considering potential vice presidential choices and preparing to formally receive the Democratic nomination on July 28 at the party’s convention in Philadelphia.
Although the meeting was not a surprise, it capped off what was already a trying week for Clinton.
Moments before Hillary Clinton’s interview, an aide to Bill Clinton for the first time released a statement to ABC News that expressed the former president’s regret over the decision because of how it has been perceived. Trump posted on Twitter.
UPDATE: If Hillary lied to the FBI investigators during her three-and-a-half-hour interview and the investigators know she lied, that might change the dynamic significantly. Both parties have said that the meeting was social.
‘And while I don’t have a role in those findings, in coming up with those findings or making those recommendations on how to move forward, I’ll be briefed on it and I will be accepting their recommendations, ‘ she said. What she did was wrong!
“People have a whole host of reasons to have questions about how we in government do our business”, Lynch said at a conference in Colorado on Friday.
