Clinton makes Monday morning campaign stop in Springfield
Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin said he had to remind the Clinton campaign about state election laws after former President Bill Clinton greeted voters at a polling location in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston around 9:35 a.m.
Also leading the Republican party is the front-runner, Donald T. Trump, with 32.5 per cent votes; Marco Rubio 22.5 per cent, Ted Cruz 22.3 per cent; Jeb Bush 7.8; John Kasich 7.6 per cent and Ben Carson 7.6 per cent votes. “And even if you’re confident that you will win the state, you may want to spend more time there so you pick up more delegates because ultimately that’s what’s going to mean you get the nomination”.
Voters in MA have been showing up at the polls in steady numbers today for the primaries that could go a long way in determining who the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees will be.
And that trend bore out across states – across the first nine Democratic contests, 74 to 86 percent of voters wanted a candidate who had experience.
Polls in MA are open until 8 p.m.
“Nearly 20,000 Bay State Democrats have fled the party this winter, with thousands doing so to join the Republican ranks, according to the state’s top elections official”, the Herald wrote. As of Monday morning, Galvin said 83,000 people had voted absentee, including 25,000 Republican ballots.
HOW YOUR VOTE MIGHT IMPACT THE MARKETS, via Patti Domm of CNBC: “If either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton looks vulnerable to a challenge after Super Tuesday polling, the upset could show up in the stock market….”
Voters are casting their ballots in 11 states, including Massachusetts, Virginia, Texas, and Colorado.
While Galvin, the Secretary of State, said he expected a large voter turn out on the Democratic side, he was unsure whether it would reach the levels that the state saw in 2008. At least until the recent rise of Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Party has not attempted to mobilise such people in decades.
Politics in the United States is (usually) tightly bound to certain patterns and institutions, especially when it comes to winning elections.
Delegates in most Democratic primaries and caucuses, including in MA, are awarded proportionally to the outcome of the vote.
Presidential hopefuls were keeping a close eye on MA as they jousted for delegates in the Super Tuesday presidential primaries.
The Massachusetts governor has been highly critical of Trump.
Baker had endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, but did not select a new favorite after Christie dropped out of the race.
” From what I’ve seen here in the office, we have a younger population making sure they are registered and have said they are voting for Sanders”.
About 700 got inside the Wood Museum of Springfield History to see presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speak on the day before Super Tuesday. Most of those are now considered unenrolled, but about 3,500 switched to the Republican party.
But, Galvin said, a lot of the hype is about Trump; it isn’t necessarily for Trump.
Many Democratic voters were also unhappy with the federal government, but only about 2 in 10 said they were angry.
Among Republicans, Trump, the real estate mogul, seems poised to handily win the state primary.
