Clinton Move To Hand Over Private Server May Damage Presidential Prospects
“As [Florida] governor, Jeb Bush owned his own private server and his staff decided which emails he turned over as work-related from his private account“, she wrote.
Clinton, frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, has said she handled email through her personal servers for convenience.
There may not be much, however, for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to lookover.
AM 760’s Armstrong & Getty examine Hillary Clinton’s continuing act on the defensive as she’s running for President of the United States. But investigators are, at least, going to give it the old college try.
Here are the basics: Like other Secretaries of State who served before her, Hillary used a personal email address, and the rules of the State Department permitted it. She’s already acknowledged that, in hindsight, it would have been better just to use separate work and personal email accounts.
“We will follow the facts wherever they lead, to include former aides and associates, as appropriate”, said Douglas Welty, a spokesman for the State Department’s inspector general.
Berger in particular worked for Hillary Clinton’s husband former President Bill Clinton.
The inspector general for the intelligence community had told Congress that potentially hundreds of classified emails are among the cache that Clinton provided to the State Department. Hillary Clinton decided to hand over the server and the thumb drive to the authorities after the FBI began investigating the matter. Earlier, Jennifer Palmieri tried implying that the State Department’s problems with hackers somehow justified the use of an unsecured and unauthorized e-mail system at Hillary’s Chappaqua house.
State Department spokesperson John Kirby said “Department employees circulated these emails on unclassified systems in 2009 and 2011 and ultimately some were forwarded to Secretary Clinton”.
Clinton’s email arrangement was “regrettable”, said Steven Aftergood, director of the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists.
The FBI has been looking into the security of Clinton’s unusual private system, which has emerged as an issue in her campaign amid growing questions from Republicans and some U.S. intelligence officials about whether government secrets might have been put at risk. “Of course, if she really cares about transparency, she would never have had a secret server in the first place”.
Perkey’s comments came after Clinton on Tuesday relented to months of demands and agreed to relinquish the personal email server she used during her four years as Secretary of State.
In addition, Clinton’s lawyer, David Kendall, confirmed in a letter dated Wednesday that he last week voluntarily gave the Justice Department a thumb drive, along with two copies, containing roughly 30,000 emails from Clinton’s tenure. The inspector general had informed congressional committees that five out of 40 her randomly selected emails contained classified information.
Before this, though, Palmieri again tries to sell the idea that none of the data now marked as classified was restricted when the material was sent. The statement comes with the penalty of perjury if the court determines she purposely falsified any information.
