Clinton on losing young voters to Sanders by 70 points: ‘That’s amazing’
Sanders has served 34 years in elective office, a quarter of a century of that in Congress. Clinton came to Washington just two years after Sanders, first as first lady and then as a senator from NY and as secretary of state.
Along the way, Clinton received the endorsement of The Des Moines Register and campaigned with Planned Parenthood officials to underscore her long support of women’s rights and healthcare.
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders continued attacking Hillary Clinton’s progressive credentials on Wednesday, reminding voters they made different decisions on backing the Iraq war, taking money from Super PACs and on trade and energy policies.
Sanders fired the opening salvo as he spoke to reporters on Tuesday in Keene, New Hampshire.
Tuesday night, at an event in Hampton, Clinton also went after Sanders on electability.
“We should talk about what the honest differences are: first, on what they want to do and how they want to pay for it; and secondly, who’s the best to do it”, the former president said.
“Last night in Iowa we took on the most powerful political organization in the country”, Sanders said. “All I was doing was repeating what she actually said”. “I have to tell you”.
Sanders’ razor-thin loss in the Iowa caucuses Monday, and his formidable lead in New Hampshire polls, has heightened the possibility that the two remaining Democrats will be involved in a protracted fight for the nomination. He revealed he’s always been bothered by injustice, and “there will be no president who will fight harder to end institutional racism than I will. We have got to reform a very, very broken criminal justice system”. But they’re deeply concerned about her struggles with young people, a key part of the coalition that propelled Barack Obama to the White House – and a coalition Clinton hopes to replicate in a general election.
“I don’t think she’s going to take any demographic group or any vote for granted”, Gov. Hodges said. I just think we need to make sure that people get the message and we maximize our turnout.
Fortunately, neither Sanders, nor most other candidates have further bothered Clinton by bringing this matter up in the campaign.
“I’m here because I’m for Hillary Clinton”, he said.
Sanders, an independent USA senator from Vermont who is running as a democratic socialist, is polling more than 15 points ahead of Clinton in New Hampshire, but is trailing her nationally by roughly the same amount.
