Clinton proposes 4% tax increase on top earners

“Hillary is now the third Democrat presidential candidate to call for raising taxes on “the rich.’ Bill Clinton and Barack Obama said the same and immediately pivoted to raising taxes on the middle class. Bill taxed gasoline, and Obama imposed seven Obamacare taxes on the middle class”, ATR President Grover Norquist said in a statement”.

“If the United States takes the lead in organizing a regional coalition to respond to this crisis, I believe we can make a serious difference”, Clinton said in a statement.

Clinton had previously drawn criticism from pro-immigration groups in 2014 when she said that unaccompanied Central American minors who had crossed the southern border should be returned to their home countries. All three Democratic candidates have expressed concern about the recent raids, but Clinton’s condemnation has been the slowest and most tepid.

Speaking at a forum aimed at young and minority voters, Clinton said the raids had “sown fear and division in immigrant communities across the country”.

“I do not think the raids are an appropriate tool to enforce the immigration laws”. And I think that we should be focused on the people who are really at the top.

Clinton does support immigration reform and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, but her record on the issue is spotty.

Sanders’ campaign, however, commended the plan Clinton announced today in an interview with MSNBC. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, had come out strongly against the raids when their planning was first reported last month.

Lawyers said they have found some family members did not get to consult with lawyers, were not aware of some of all of the chances to appeal for relief they can seek because they lacked legal counsel.In addition to ending the raids, Clinton said children should not have to defend themselves in removal proceedings without an attorney.

Clinton’s Democratic presidential opponents have already been outspoken at the Obama administration’s DHS raids.

“As we spend time with our families this holiday season, we who are parents should ask ourselves what we would do if our children faced the danger and violence these children do?”

Republican front-runner Donald Trump said Saturday in Iowa, “Wall Street has caused tremendous problems for us”.

While Mrs Clinton has said a tax code that favours nurses and truck drivers over hedge fund managers could pay for job, infrastructure, and health research initiatives, Mr Sanders said the plan isn’t bold enough. “We are a nation of nations, and we do not send children and women and families back to the hands of death gangs”.
