Clinton runs ad on Trump’s remarks about women
Lazio says this year he is not supporting either major party candidate running for president.
For Democrats, a nightmare scenario is looking more and more like a possible reality: Donald Trump is close to even with Hillary Clinton in the presidential polls. His to convince voters that he has the good judgment and restraint required of a president. About $40 million of the ads will play on national TV, he said. Mrs. Clinton has concluded that catching Mr. Trump in a lie during the debate is not enough to beat him: She needs the huge television audience to see him as temperamentally unfit for the presidency, and that she has the power to unhinge him.
Longtime Clinton aide Philippe Reines is playing Trump in mock debates, according to a person familiar with the preparations who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and insisted on anonymity. But he has big deficits with voters who think he doesn’t have the character and temperament to be president.
“Trump is saying we need to change the way we do things”, Ford said. Trump might also be asked about his recent comment that Clinton doesn’t have a “presidential look” or his repeated questions about her “stamina”. Trump is promising to “stay cool”. Both candidates were continuing intensive debate prep almost until air time. At its best, the debate could help flesh out details of both candidates’ platforms, highlighting similarities and differences. “Or will he come in and try to insult and try to score some points?” Trump said Perry would do well, though Trump said he didn’t know whether Perry would run.
Reines worked on Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and during her time as secretary of state. The exchange showed how Clinton’s humor could be an effective countermeasure to Trump. She also has more to answer for since the Federal Bureau of Investigation concluded that she was “extremely careless” in her handling of classified material in the emails.
“I’ve never seen a candidate this negative win an election”, Ford said, referring to Clinton.
They can’t exactly drop to the floor for a one-armed pushups contest. She pinches her thumb and index finger.
Monday’s debate was originally set for Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, but the school withdrew as host in July, citing steep costs, especially for security.
Lazio infamously walked over to Clinton’s podium during the debate, demanding she sign a pledge to forgo a form of donations known as soft money.
The candidates won’t be the only ones under the microscope.
The concern of the Clinton team is that the moderator, Lester Holt of NBC, will toss simpler “softball” questions in Trump’s direction while pressing Clinton with a much more challenging interrogation. “But they really dislike Donald Trump”. It presents a major opportunity for them to appeal to voters who have yet to commit to a candidate after a mostly negative race in which Clinton and Trump have sought to brand each other as untrustworthy and unsafe for the country.
In an election year that has upended political convention, the candidates’ best opportunity to conquer their weaknesses will come in the most traditional of campaign forums: Monday’s 90-minute, prime-time debate.
Trump relied on his famed spontaneity to fire off one-line zingers to dismantle 16 Republican rivals during the primaries, dispatching “low-energy” Jeb Bush or “lying Ted” Cruz and “little Marco” Rubio. Clinton will be ready. Clinton’s lack of one says something about her struggle to excite voters about her vision for the future – which is usually what’s at stake in a presidential election that doesn’t involve an incumbent.
He said Friday that Clinton continues to support efforts to “hold accountable those responsible” for the attacks.
Many news outlets and fact-check sites have taken note of Trump’s propensity to veer far from reality; the Clinton fact-check document notes that, of the claims checked by PolitiFact, the respected website has found a “whopping 70% of Trump’s claims are untrue” (emphasis in original).
“You’re just not sure who is going to show up”, said Jennifer Palmieri, a senior adviser to Clinton.
