Clinton, Sanders speak at Las Vegas church
“Senator Sanders said that President Obama failed the presidential leadership test and this is not the first time he has criticized President Obama”.
After a 22-points loss in New Hampshire’s primaries, Hillary Clinton will face Senator Bernie Sanders on Thursday evening in the decisive Democratic debate. Reed went on to challenge Sanders’ record, saying, “Show me in the Senate where he led some broad coalition to get something significant accomplished…”
Candidates usually avoid taking swipes at home-state politicians during debates, but Walker (who ran his own brief presidential campaign before dropping out in September last year) is a lightning rod for Wisconsin Democrats.
The former secretary of state is banking on support from minorities to help her blunt Sanders’ broad appeal with young voters and liberals.
Black voters may remember that Clinton’s campaign came under fire several times for perceived racism following Obama’s 2008 victory in SC, with former President Bill Clinton appearing to have attributed Obama’s victory to voters having voted based on race alone.
Bernie Sanders is far behind Hillary Clinton when it comes to the polls in SC, but he appears to be outperforming her on the ground in the race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Bernie Sanders upset with the Democratic Party’s superdelegate process are making moves to lure some of them to their side, Politico reports.
Mrs Clinton leads Mr Sanders 48 per cent to 45 per cent among Democratic voters, according to the poll of 512 Americans, conducted from Feb 2-5 after the Iowa caucus. “That was not as I understand, the secretary’s position”, the independent senator from Vermont said, reported The Hill.
“I am not a single issue candidate and this is not a single issue country”, Clinton said, a comment that is squared directly at Sanders.
They don’t want another candidate who’s bought and paid for, and unfortunately, like way too many establishment candidates, that’s exactly what Hillary Clinton is.
This problem seems to be baffling to Clinton as well, given her style of pandering to women voters. Sanders favors a European-style model where health insurance would “no longer be tied to employment” and “working Americans wouldn’t have to choose between bargaining for higher wages or better health insurance”. “What President [Barack] Obama succeeded in doing was to build on the healthcare system we have, to get us to 90 percent coverage”.
“Rich get richer and poor get poorer…in America today whole lot of this poor people are African-American”, said Sanders.
