Clinton team to take part in Wisconsin recount
US President-elect Donald Trump has called a request for a recount of votes in Wisconsin a “scam” by the Green Party.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign said Saturday it will participate in the recount efforts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and MI spearheaded by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission tweeted: “The Commission has received the Stein and Del La Fuente recount petitions”.
As the Two-Way reported Friday, Stein and another third party candidate filed for a recount in Wisconsin and plan to do the same in Pennsylvania and MI.
However, Stein targeted Wisconsin for the initial recount challenge.
Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence also have Monday meetings scheduled with Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., former Security and Exchange Commission commissioner Paul Atkins, World Wide Technology chairman David Steward and General Growth Properties CEO Sandeep Mathrani.
As the person calling for the recounts, Stein must cover these costs – as well as the costs of recounts in Pennsylvania and MI – which is why her campaign has raised millions from voters dissatisfied with the election outcome. Prominent cybersecurity experts have recently said that although the chances of the election results being tampered with were slim, a recount would be the best way to ensure that results are valid.
Clinton’s campaign should be legally represented in Wisconsin to be able to monitor the recount, he said.
Trump lost the popular vote nationwide by two million votes, but won the presidency under the Electoral College system thanks to his victories in key states.
And that sentiment seems to have taken hold – Green Party candidate Jill Stein is now crowdfunding recounts in three states.
They also are expected to file for recounts in MI and Pennsylvania this coming week.
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign has been quietly exploring whether there was any “outside interference” in the election results and will participate in the election recount in Wisconsin initiated by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, a Clinton campaign lawyer revealed Saturday.
Under federal law, states must complete recounts within 35 days of a presidential election. Haas says that nearly twice the number of voters turned out this year for the presidential election and officials are going to have to scramble to get the recount done by December 13.
Trump confirmed the picks Friday in a statement from his transition team.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign said Saturday it will take part in efforts to push for recounts in several key states, joining with Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who has raised millions of dollars to have votes counted again in Wisconsin.
In Michigan, Trump’s 10,704-vote lead is expected to be certified by the state elections board Monday.
“Nevertheless, we stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people”, it added. It is the first time that a Republican won these three States, with a combined strength of 46 electoral votes, in roughly three decades.
For the record, Trump enjoys about a 27,000-vote margin in Wisconsin and a almost 70,000-vote cushion in Pennsylvania.
