Clinton tells Democrats not to be discouraged, divided
We believe that every American should feel that they are welcomed in their own country and feel like they have the same rights as everyone else.
Their vote is supposed to be in accordance with the majority vote of their state – in Colorado, where Clinton won a majority, all the electors would vote for Clinton, while in Florida, where Trump won a majority – all electors would vote for Trump – but very occasionally electors do something they weren’t supposed to do.
So now what? If you supported Trump you’re fine. “I think that’s always possible”, he says.
Trump ended up with 276 electoral votes and Hillary Clinton received 216.
The White House issued a statement that said, “Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the President identified at the beginning of the year and a meeting with the President-elect is the next step”. But even that approach could face a constitutional challenge from opponents, said Laurence H. Tribe, a professor at Harvard Law School. She said she’d increase taxes and double down on the war on energy.
On election night 2012, he incorrectly tweeted that Mitt Romney had won the popular vote but lost to Barack Obama: “He lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election”. I couldn’t listen to the radio all day.
“I won Iowa not because the demographics dictated that I would win Iowa”, the Post quoted Obama.
But the context of Obama’s comments make pretty clear that he was talking about the distribution of his party more broadly.
“I’m not going to change my mind just because I won”. Some supporters are even using this fact to implore Trump’s electors to overturn the result of the electoral college and install Clinton as the rightful president.
“We have that, ‘Hey, Donald Trump came through, but now we need to break the glass and we need to really do our job under the 12th Amendment, ‘” Baca said. It is no exaggeration to note that had Trump faced a more moderate, believable Democrat, he might well have lost.
You might be surprised, then, to learn that I am optimistic about what happens next, and that I hope other Republicans in my boat will help the new president succeed, offering their advice and (if Trump isn’t blackballing us #NeverTrumpsters) their services. Who he appoints will tell us if he will honor the promises he has made to us.
In contrast, Wyoming has 149,066 potential voters for each of its three electoral votes, making a vote in Wyoming almost four times more powerful than a vote in Texas.
