Clinton ‘thrilled’ to win Iowa caucuses
Cruz pulled past Trump to win the Iowa caucuses on Monday night after falling behind his main rival in the polls there.
On stage at the Crossing Life Church in Windham, Texas Senator Ted Cruz told voters his first-place finish in Iowa the night before was thanks to the same kind of coalition that united behind Ronald Reagan three decades ago.
Sanders, who finished less than a half a percentage point behind Clinton in the caucuses says it’s proof a political revolution is underway.
Asked by a reporter if he felt at all bad about the result, Trump said, “There’s a tinge…I probably had a tinge because a poll came out that said I was five points ahead”.
The Iowa Democratic Party just released its final Iowa Caucuses totals Tuesday in the very tight race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
To clarify the results, Sanders said his campaign “will be talking to the Iowa state Democratic officials”.
New Hampshire’s primary elections are set for next Tuesday. Some precincts reported that a delegate was allocated after flipping a coin in the case of a close tie, and Sanders’ campaign said Tuesday that they had intended “to take a look at” the results of those areas. The Florida senator said Cruz has “criticized (Trump’s) New York values but has raised millions of dollars in New York City”. This is unlikely to help him in liberal-leaning New Hampshire, where Messrs Trump and Rubio are now the favourites.
The endorsement from Brown, a popular GOP figure in New England who also has many fans among the Republican establishment, could prove a significant boost to Trump a week before voters in the Granite State go to the polls.
Trump said Tuesday skipping the Fox News debate “might” have hurt him in Iowa, but now heading into New Hampshire, Trump thinks he doesn’t have to make too many changes.
Iowa has held the first contest in the country since the early 1970s, giving it extra weight in the electoral process that can translate into momentum for winning candidates. On the Democratic side, the split decision in Iowa seems unlikely to scramble the New Hampshire race.
Rubio wasted no time in attacking Cruz, alleging that Cruz’s career is “one of calculation”.
Mr Sanders’ campaign also has the overwhelming support of younger Democratic-leaning voters.
