Clinton To Testify About Benghazi: ‘I Really Don’t Know What To Expect’
“The chairman of the House committee that is investigating the 2012 Benghazi attack on Sunday defended the panel’s inquiry ahead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scheduled testimony on Thursday”.
Huma Abedin has been a trusted confidante for Clinton, serving with her in the State Department – during which the attack took place – and continuing as a senior aide on Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign team.
But Gowdy said on CBS there’s no evidence the committee is political, and that the two members who offered those comments aren’t on the committee, and haven’t been briefed on what it’s doing.
On September. 29, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., suggested the panel’s probe was responsible for Clinton’s declining presidential poll numbers – a gaffe he later apologized for and Democrats seized upon.
Republican Jim Jordan will question Clinton as she testifies to the House Benghazi committee.
‘House Republicans aren’t even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce, ‘ the statement read. “Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened had we not fought”. Abedin was Clinton’s right-hand aide on the day of the attack and throughout the scandal.
“I have told my Republican colleagues and friends: Shut up talking about things you don’t know anything about”, Gowdy said.
Clinton and other Democrats call it a partisan political exercise created to “exploit” the deaths of four Americans and hurt her bid for the White House.
The former secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate will be the star witness in the 17-month-long, Republican-led investigation that already has surpassed the 1970s-era Watergate probe in length. Just last week, Rep. Richard Hanna, R-N.Y., said he thinks a “big part” of the investigation was to go after Clinton. Or to weigh in on Clinton’s ally Sid Blumenthal’s unsubstantiated intelligence he sent to the then-Secretary of State.
Abedin has been publicly quiet on the investigation, but she broke her silence by briefly speaking to reporters after testifying.
Abedin is a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton.
A former Republican staffer also has criticized its work as exclusively focused on Clinton while describing a less-than-professional atmosphere, with an informal wine club nicknamed “Wine Wednesdays”, and several Republican staff members spending time forming a gun-buying club.
Gowdy says those critics are uninformed. “He has put forward his plans with passionate intensity and I have put forth mine and just think of the difference between us and the Republicans who have put forward nothing but the same old out of touch, out of date policies”, she said of Sanders, a senator from Vermont who is running to Clinton’s left.
After Clinton made her exit from the administration, he became Joe Biden’s national security adviser for more than a year, advising the vice president on Libya and other issues, before taking a job at Yale Law School last summer.
