Clinton: Trump “totally unqualified” to be President
Speaking to reporters the morning after a NY security forum featuring separate appearances by the two candidates, Clinton also slammed the businessman for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin and saying U.S. generals had been “reduced to rubble” by the policies of U.S. President Barack Obama.
Trump also weighed in on domestic politics, declining to criticize Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson for a gaffe he made earlier on Thursday and saying unequivocally that Johnson should not be in the general election debate later this month.
“I don’t understand the reasons for it”, she said. When Lauer introduced a question about how the Republican nominee is boning up on issues, he told Trump, “nobody would expect you” to have delved deeply into foreign policy. Trump responded, “Yeah, I guess so”. As nominees for the November 8 presidential election, she and Trump are entitled to receive intelligence briefings.
“That is not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country, as well as to our commander in chief”.
A flood of Republican national security experts have instead chosen to back Clinton, helping bolster her case that Trump is broadly unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Clinton’s campaign this week published a 250-page book detailing her various policy plans. “She tried to make up for her terrible performance last night”. The current average of polls by website RealClearPolitics puts her at 45.6 percent support, compared to Trump’s 42.8 percent. “The man has very strong control over a country”, Trump said. At a speech in Cleveland, he tagged his Democratic opponent with a new nickname – “trigger-happy Hillary” and repeated his incorrect claim that he opposed the war in Iraq “from the beginning”. The Republican candidate was widely criticized recently when he called her a “co-founder”, along with Obama, of Islamic State. “I’m not going to sit up here and do the tit-for-tat on what Donald said last night or the night before and Hillary vs. Donald”. “That’s not only risky, it should be disqualifying”.
At a rally in North Carolina Thursday afternoon, Clinton said those endorsements have only grown since the forum, arguing that the event was a “test and he failed it”.
“They’re all trying to make him look more presidential”.
“Every day that goes by – this just becomes more and more of a reality television show”, she said.
Trump’s campaign fired back at Clinton after her session with reporters, saying she was resorting to “unhinged and dishonest” attacks.
On Thursday, Trump said he would have voted against the war if he had been serving in Congress at the time. Afterwards, some of his supporters shrugged off his comments about Putin.
“I think that when you serve in the armed forces, that’s a very special situation”, Trump said.
Jason Miller, a Trump spokesman, told CNN the interview was recorded as a podcast and was a favor to King, adding, “Mr. Trump was never told it would be shared anywhere else”.
“Putin is an aggressor that does not share our interests”.
The Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Corker, offered Trump a warning when asked about the relationship on Thursday.
“He trash-talked American generals, saying they’ve been ‘reduced to rubble.’ He suggested he would fire them, and replace them with his hand-picked generals”, Clinton said.
“Republicans are just in a awful dilemma trying to support a totally unqualified nominee, I have no sympathy for them, it’s their nominee”, she said.
