Clinton Wants To Close Private Immigration Detention Centers
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential frontrunner gained the support of Warren Buffett, the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE.BRK.B) because they agree on implementing higher taxes on the wealthy, the so-called “Buffett Rule”. She further added that she supported Warren Buffet’s proposal that individuals earning $1 million per year should pay an effective tax rate of at least 30 percent.
Mr Buffett, a long-time critic of America’s uneven taxation of rich and poor, listed statistics showing the widening income gap as he introduced Mrs Clinton at her first event in Nebraska.
“I want to be president for the struggling, the striving and the successful”, Clinton said.
Economic recovery has been healthy under President Obama, she said, but could be spurred by more funding for infrastructure improvements, a boost for manufacturing fueled in part by more technical skill training opportunities in community colleges and the new jobs that can be created by development of clean energy sources.
President Obama proposed the Buffett rule in 2011 and pitched it again this year, but has gotten no traction in the Republican-led Congress. Congress hasn’t enacted it.
As Clinton’s supporters continue to hope Buffett will come through for their candidate, she planned Wednesday to continue talking about ways to help the middle class and appeal to regular Americans.
“I am very skeptical about the need or desire for us to pursue offshore drilling off the coast of SC, and frankly off the coast of other Southeast states”, said the Democratic candidate.
“You’ve got it!” a woman bellowed from the balcony to her right, causing the more than 800 in attendance to rise to their feet like an army greeting their sergeant. The day of campaigning will be her last before the third Democratic debate on Saturday.
After her Omaha rally, Clinton is scheduled to jump across the border to Iowa, where she will headline two town halls.
The former secretary of state went on to praise the singer-songwriter and actress, asking the crowd if they’d ever seen her perform live.
In addition to the rally, Mr. Buffett also hosted a private fundraiser for Mrs. Clinton on Wednesday, at which guests had to pony up $2,700 for the chance to have their picture taken with the duo.
Clinton has said she’s talked about Wall Street excess for years, and has vowed to seek criminal penalties for bankers who break the rules. “I will bet money on it, ” he said, the Associated Press reported.
“You do not know how an act of kindness can make a big difference”.
