Clinton wins endorsement of the AFL
Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is “Frankenstein’s monster”, a “racist”, “the Joker” – and an opportunity to turn Texas blue, according to optimistic Texas Democrats gathered at their party’s convention in San Antonio this weekend.
And there was no shortage of drama.
Police in Montgomery County, Texas, detained and eventually released a man who was said to have been found with a handgun near the location of a Trump rally being held in The Woodlands.
“We’ll say “Make America Great Again” on a cowboy hat”, Trump told the cheering crowd.
“If some of those wonderful people had guns strapped to their waist or strapped to their ankle and this son of a (expletive) comes out and starts shooting, and one of the people happened to have it and goes ‘boom, boom, ‘ that would have been a lovely, handsome sight”, he said.
Trump said Clinton seeks a 550 percent increase in refugees from Syria settling in the U.S.
Friday’s rally is Trump’s second stop in Texas.
The Log Cabin Republicans, a group of conservatives that are supportive of equal rights for LGBT voters, has been receptive to Trump’s newfound support, however.
Trump said that President Barack Obama “to a large extent, blamed guns” for the tragedy in Orlando, adding “I’m going to save your Second Amendment folks”.
“Where’s that horse!” he said at one point. At Trump’s instruction, supporters in the audience began chanting “Trump, Trump, Trump” when they noticed a protester in the audience.
“We just want to tell him we are not criminals, we are not rapists, we’re not drug dealers”, said protester Victor Ibarra, who is upset about the controversial statements Trump has made about Latinos.
Tickets ranged from $500 to $250,000. This handed Trump what he most desperately sought – more airtime and the most potent weapon of his campaign: the mic.
The group says the protest will be peaceful, and is inspired by the practices of Martin Luther King Jr. and César Chávez.
Trump told the crowd he expects winning the general election against likely rival Hillary Clinton in November to be more hard than the primary because of a dishonest press. While protestors have lined the streets at other Trump rallies, the hotel management at the Waterway Marriott does not anticipate the same thing in their location as it is private property, KPRC reported.
