Clippers’ Griffin out 4-to-6 weeks after breaking hand
The worse news is that Griffin broke a bone in his hand while literally duking it out with a Clippers team employee, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin is expected to miss four to six weeks of action after breaking his hand while throwing a punch, the National Basketball Association team said on Tuesday. The Clippers later confirmed the injury and coach Doc Rivers acknowledged before the game that Griffin could face additional punishment.
The NBA is investigating the incident. Griffin took to Twitter, posting a picture of a long paragraph explaining Griffin regretting his actions and apologizing to fans and the team for creating a distraction. Griffin returned to Los Angeles on Monday for X-rays and had surgery on Tuesday, the team announced.
Due to the quad injury, Griffin has played in just 30 games this season with averages of 23.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He has been out since December 26 with a partially torn left quadriceps tendon. Both he and the equipment staffer were immediately sent home following the skirmish.
“I think all the stuff in the last 48 hours, you always say it’s the game that brings your team back”.
The star forward underwent a procedure and was treated by an orthopedic surgeon after returning early to Los Angeles from a five-game road trip, the team said Tuesday.
“With Blake out, we”ve had this mode of trying to win every game and that”s how we have to continue to play,” Rivers said. “You want to try to end this road trip on a good note, so it was important for us to come out ready from the beginning”. Part of the reasoning for the trade was that Griffin was expected to return to the court during the current road trip. The team is already at its midway point in the regular season, but even with 11 weeks to go between now and the postseason, this could act as a season-ending injury.
“We have to figure out the best way to deal with this”, Rivers said.
L.A. travels to Atlanta to face the Hawks on Wednesday before returning home to square off with the Lakers on Friday at Staples Center.
Blake Griffin apparently lost his cool.
He was charged with battery, after getting into a fight with a person in Las Vegas, after Griffin was upset with the individual taking photos inside of a club. That charge was dropped last March after prosecutors “made it clear that the allegations couldn’t be proved”.
