Clippers making push to keep DeAndre Jordan
Jordan committed to signing a four-year, $80-million contact with Dallas on Friday, but any commitment is not binding until Jordan actually signs. With roughly 90 minutes to go before the moratorium is lifted and Jordan can sign with the Clippers, Dallas still had not heard directly from Jordan since Tuesday. Nobody ever backs out of these verbal agreements, however, unless you’re Hedo Turkoglu or Carlos Boozer. Redick, on Bleacher Report radio, graded the Clippers’ free agency as “F. Is there an F-minus?” “Everyone involved understands it was a team and agent who often work hand-in-hand who conspired together to talk a young player into a decision that was more for their gain than his”.
The 2015 National Basteball Association Champions took the conversation away from travel emojis, downplaying the Jordan negotiations by reminding the league that they just won a ring without the help of the big man. The Mavericks and Jordan’s agents tried to reach him repeatedly while he met with the Clippers, but were unsuccessful.
Jordan asked Griffin what his plans are for his future. Fegan is good buddies with Mark Cuban, and despite reportedly explicitly disclosing that relationship to Jordan, he isn’t in the room. It appears that he is more than likely to remain a Clipper and will fly back to Los Angeles with the team once he signs a deal.
This tongue-and-cheek tweet proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Dallas Mavericks, as the Clippers contingent inside Jordan’s house already knew that he was set to be a Clipper all along.
Lin essentially announced the deal with the Hornets, posting on his Instagram page Wednesday night “Lets goooooo!!”
“Don’t agree with the furniture layout”, he wrote, “but I’m not an interior designer”.
It has apparently worked, and Mark Cuban is not going to be happy.
Sources: Cuban is beside himself. It was an airplane, as he indicated he would be flying to meet with Jordan in Houston to convince him that Dallas was the best location for him to play. It was clear he was returning to them.
The major problem for the teams is that, once word gets out that they have agreed to terms with a given player, it is then assumed that those roster and salary spots are occupied, constraining further forays into free agency. They spent the rest of their night playing cards and video games.
But a few days later, Jordan – who was always torn on his choice – started to have buyer’s remorse.
Update (12:13 a.m.): It’s official. The Clippers quickly trumpeted the deal in a tweet. Option after 3rd year.
