Clouds Might Obscure Eclipse In Michigan
The National Weather Service says Minnesota has more than a 50 percent of getting cloud cover today (Monday) – which would hide the first total solar eclipse across parts of the United States since 1979. However, a few breaks in the clouds can not be ruled out.
“It’s all based on when that cumulus growth is going to happen – when those lower clouds start to develop”, Kook said. Coverage will remain very isolated, so overall viewing conditions should be pretty good for the eclipse. This means we can’t really trust what model guidance is showing.which makes things just that much more hard. Not a big surprise either, but this storm system is actually a cold front and it will give us a much-needed break from our recent surge of hot and humid weather.
“The best advice is if you’re along the immediate coast you want to move inland”, Laber said. Some lingering debris clouds from overnight storms in northern in should continue to dissipate as we head through the morning. We aren’t even sure how much of a drop in temps we will see – that will also depend on how much cloud cover is overhead. Additionally, scattered thunderstorms will be possible late afternoon with the highest chances in far east Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.
“When eclipse day dawns, weather will trump all the geometric calculations and careful planning that eclipse-chasers have anxious about for years”, said Kelly Beatty, senior editor of Sky & Telescope magazine and a veteran eclipse chaser. “Right now, our visibility looks a little iffy as we head through midday”.
Muggy August air will create chances for showers and storms through Tuesday.
